My American Dream: Boats & Horses

Image via Pinterest

Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a fascination with Jackie O. Honestly, what little girl didn't?? She encompasses everything amazing in life...horses & boating. I have already stated my affinity for anything horse related...but I have not yet shared my love of boats.

I know the boats were a Kennedy thing...but Jackie sure does look amazing in them. While in Newport for a wedding a few weeks ago, all my dreams of owning a boat (and looking like Jackie on one) came flooding back.

With boats comes a natural love for all things nautical. I believe nautical decor is so classic. My own dining room has a very nautical feel to it; with framed vintage maps on top blue walls and a brass chandelier.

Here are some more great nautical interiors and exteriors, without going overboard (pun intended)...

Until the day we own a boat, these little splashes of decor will have to do. But I do dream of smashing a bottle of champagne at my own ship launch...

Tablescapes?

For the last month, I have had to keep my coffee table empty. My 9 month old daughter has been pulling her self up and walking around the table...as well as pulling off everything that is on it.

It really has made me question all of my tabletops in my house. Styling a coffee table, side table, kitchen table, dresser, etc...can be pretty pretty tricky. If you add to much, it will appear cluttered; but if you do not have enough, it looks unfinished. One of my go to's for any tabletop is flowers. They always seem to complete a look. Other than that, I normally try to stick to the rule of three, for example:

(1) Tray with flowers
(2) Stack of books
(3) Other Accessories (insert Buddha head, large candle, sculpture, etc).

(1) Large Candle Pillar

(2) Stack of books with flowers on top

The possibilities are endless....and normally the rule of three transcends to any tablescape. For large spaces, you can duplicate it or group it; for smaller tables you can have one tray with a few tiny objects. Here are some of my favorite, simple tablescapes...
